350 Home and Garden Challenge 2011

For the second year, the Victory Garden Foundation (VGF) takes the challenge to encourage, inspire, and support people trying to 'improve the quality of life in and around the garden.' This is a national challenge that VGF plays a small yet significant role. Each individual plays a small yet significant role. It is the sum of us all inspired to stand up and be counted to improve our health through growing food in and near our homes; conserving water and energy; and building our communities by reaching out to our neighbors to get to know each other better. Last year, we accomplished a lot. This year, we want to accomplish more. As a national media sponsor to Transition US; we want you to Stand and Be Counted somewhere::garden, sustainability, resilience, any small, individual, group or large effort. Need a bit of inspiration? Watch this!

For every person that stands to be counted; we are touching at least two other people - partners, children, parents, grandparents, friends and other family members of the ONE person that stood up. We're asking for 350 people to get into their gardens on a single weekend - May 14-15 to gather with others to grow their food at or near home.

Watch this page for 'By the Numbers' to see how we're doing with the 350 Victory Garden Challenge and the National Challenge at large. These numbers represent the impact that the message is having on the community.

By the Numbers
Goal: 350 Gardeners on the Map
and gardening the weekend of May 14-15

Monday, May 16, 2011
This was a very successful campaign. People took the 350 Victory Garden Challenge in many ways: Registering their gardens, being on a garden work crew, becoming a fan on Facebook, and following us on Twitter. We've completed the counts and want to let you know how widespread your efforts were to help bring awareness to growing your foot at or near home and actually getting into the garden to make it happen.

Drum roll please ... 665
